Only use high-visibility (continental) crosswalks over higher-speed roads (probably >=30mph or >=35mph). Use transverse line crosswalks for side streets of these higher-speed roads.
When bike lanes are painted on a road, end the bike lanes somewhat before a major intersection. End the lanes on both sides even if there is space for a bike lane in one direction and sharrows in the other.
